Knowing Christ

“I want to know Christ”

Paul, all I can say is…

WHATEVER.

You’re the great apostle Paul….. You’ve been faithfully serving Jesus Christ for over 30 years now. You have personally evangelized a third of the Roman Empire, leading countless souls into the Kingdom of God through your preaching and testimony of Christ….

You’ve suffered, been shipwrecked, and been left for dead, all for your love of Jesus. You’ve managed to write over a dozen letters that will eventually become part of the N.T. canon….. and….. you want to know Christ?? You KNOW Him, I mean, REALLY know Him, better than anyone else in all human history! You want to know Him?

Really??

Ok, then…. me, too.

Not just intellectually, or even theologically. i want to know JUST Christ – the man, the message, my King and my God. I want to know Him until it hurts; I want to participate in His sufferings. I want to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus the Christ; in other words, I want to be as much like Jesus as is possible in this life.

I hear you, Paul….. I hear you.

Terry.

  1. Yeah, I’m with you. The even when it hurts part makes me flinch a little, but it’s always worth it in the end.

  2. I think this quote by Tozer is appropriate.

To accept Christ is to know the meaning of the words “as He is, so are we in this world” ( 1 John 4:17). We accept His friends as our friends, His enemies as our enemies, His ways as our ways, His rejection as our rejection, His cross as our cross, His life as our life, His future as our future. If this is what we mean when we advise a seeker to accept Christ, we had better explain it to him. He may get into deep spiritual trouble unless we do.
    A.W. Tozer
